HamsterOS landed on Hackaday

Hackaday featured HamsterOS in "HamsterOS Crams Complete Graphical Desktop Onto 1.44 MB Floppy", published June 29, 2026 by Donald Papp.

The article covers the floppy-first 32-bit graphical desktop, built-in apps, hard-disk install path, DOS support, and HamsterWeazle as a friendly path for writing floppy images with GreaseWeazle hardware.

The current HamsterOS build has continued forward with the in-kernel VM86 DOS prompt, dynamic ATA and CD-ROM drive letters, the structured Help Viewer, the first HamsterWrite word-processor slice, shared bitmap system fonts, SoundBlaster 16 audio, and the HAMA/HAMD app and driver formats.

Read the Hackaday feature or visit the HamsterOS product page for the latest project details.
